West Lothian adopts vibration fitness
West Lothian Leisure has invested in vibration fitness equipment following feedback from its members.
The company, which operates ten health and fitness facilities, will offer the equipment supplied by Galileo in four of it’s leisure centres – Broxburn, Linlithgow, Livingston and Whitburn – from September.
The first 100 people to book will receive their first session free of charge. The normal fee is £5.
The facilities’ fitness instructors will encourage members to incorporate Galileo sessions into regular fitness routines and are utilising the equipment for GP and physiotherapy referral programmes.
Chris Dickson, health development manager at West Lothian Leisure, says he became interested in vibration training after being approached by someone suffering from multiple sclerosis.
“This individual had tried vibration equipment but was unable to travel to a site with the equipment. At this point I decided it was something I was willing to explore and Galileo came out on top when we trialled three different brands.
"It offers a fantastic opportunity to provide additional alternatives to people who have otherwise felt excluded.”
If successful, the equipment may be rolled out to all ten sites.
