West Sussex ancient woodland saved
An area of ancient woodland near Worthing, West Sussex, which was threatened by plans for a new residential development, has been saved.
Worthing Borough Council dismissed proposals put forward by a consortium of developers, which was seeking permission to build 875 homes at Titnore Lane in West Durrington. Two public playing pitches - including one all-weather pitch; land for a new school; a financial contribution towards youth facilities, a medical centre and a library; and play areas were also mooted.
Despite recommendations to inform the secretary of state that the council was "minded to grant outline planning permission subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement", the scheme was rejected by councillors.
