West Vancouver District looks for design proposals for new museum
West Vancouver district staff are looking for design firms to create a proposal for the new 30,000sq ft (2,137sq m) new West Vancouver Museum that will serve as a centre for art, architecture and design.
Located in the Ambleside town centre, the waterfront museum will replace the existing West Vancouver Museum which has “outgrown its current facility.”
The new modern museum will focus on how art, architecture and design has evolved in the region from mid-century modernism which began in West Vancouver.
It will have three streams of activity: collection; exhibition; and education.
The museum proposes to be an art museum that’s maintains and displays a collection, creating a venue for the legacy of West Vancouver artists, architects, and designers.
It also looks to be: a centre for design by promoting contemporary architecture and preserving West Vancouver’s design heritage; and a place of arts education – offering education workshops to children and adults.
The deadline for design proposals is June 13 at 2 pm.
