Westminster Park Plaza buy-to-let hotel development on track
The new £250m Park Plaza Westminster Bridge 'Aparthotel' is on track for an early 2010 opening on London's South Bank.
The 1021-bedroom four-star hotel will feature 2,500sq m of meeting space, including a grand ballroom accommodating 1,200 people and over 30 syndicate rooms. The buy-to-let concept hotel has rooms currently on the market from £200,000 for a 999-year lease. Galliard Homes will be managing the sale of the units until construction of the hotel is completed. Investors are being guaranteed a 6 per cent net return up to 2015 and 30 days free stay per year for five years.
The hotel will also include a signature restaurant, a sushi bar and a lounge bar, a coffee shop, a 20m swimming pool and gym as well as a spa. Former Hilton Hotel Corporation manager of 25 years, Andrew Swindell, has been appointed the general manager of the Westminster hotel.
The project is being developed by Park Plaza Hotel Group in conjunction with Gear Construction Project Management and is being built by Eurosea Hotels Contractors. Designed by BUJ Architects and Uri Blumenthal Architects & Town Planners, the hotel will feature a number of eco-friendly technologies such as an on-site filtered water bottling factory, eliminating the need to transport and dispose of an estimated one million bottles of water per year.
Construction began in November 2007 and is expected to be completed in early 2010. Park Plaza Hotels Europe will operate the development as part of a franchise agreement. Park Plaza Hotel & Resorts, part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, plans to increase the number of rooms from 7,300 to 13,200 by 2010. Projects under development include Park Plaza Marrakech, Park Plaza Nuremberg, art'otel Cologne and art-otel Marrakech, all expected to open in 2009.
