Wigan acquires site for new training ground
By Tom Anstey
Wigan Athletic Football Club has announced plans for a new training facility after acquiring a golf course and surrounding land in Charnock Richard, just outside of Chorley and less than 10 miles away from Wigan.
The Latics had previously proposed to build a new training facility close to Wrightington Country Club, however objections to the proposal and the prospect of a lengthy planning application has seen the club acquire an alternative site.
It is hoped that work will start towards the end of the year.
A club statement said: "The purchase and development of this site will be a key aspect of the club's objective of securing Youth Development Category 1 Status."
