Wimbledon's move to the Shires rejected
The Football League has rejected the application of Wimbledon football club to relocate to Milton Keynes. The plans to move to a new purpose-built stadium in the Buckinghamshire town came under heavy criticism from Wimbledon fans, who currently watch their side play home games at south London neighbours Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park. The league's rejection of the first division club's plans was on the grounds of creating a precedent which is at odds of the football league's rules which state teams should play in the town or area from which they are traditionally associated.
