Windsor Castle tribute to Golden Jubilee
A new landscape garden, the first to be created at Windsor castle since the 1820s, is set to transform the main visitor entrance.
The garden will be created by Chelsea Garden Show gold medallist Tom Stuart-Smith to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee this summer.
Funded by The Royal Collection, which manages the Queen's visitor admission to royal residences, the garden will be an informal design to compliment the parkland landscape of the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world.
Sir Hugh Roberts, director of the Royal Collection, said: 'The new garden will greatly enhance a visit to the castle, the first view people get on a visit to Windsor will be much better. Millions of tourists will walk along the new path, shaded by lilacs and magnolias up to St George's Gate.'
At the centre of the garden there will be a bandstand made of a variety of Englsih stone, with a bronze Garter Star at the centre. It will be used for regular performances by the Bands of the Household Division.
The garden should be finished by the end of June. Details: +44 (0)1753 869898
