Work commences on AU$55m MCG scheme
Work has now commenced on a major AU$55m (£36.4m, EUR41.6m, US$58.2m) revamp of the Great Southern Stand at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia.
Last month, Construction Engineering was appointed by Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) to oversee the refurbishment programme, which is to be carried out in phases.
Victoria's state government contributed AU$30m (£19.9m, EUR22.7m, US$31.8m) towards the scheme, with the remaining balance to be provided by the MCC.
The improvements are designed to improve the visitor experience across all four levels of the Great Southern Stand, including upgraded food and beverage outlets; enhanced entry points; and better audio-visual systems.
The project will also include a new-look Australian Football League (AFL) Members Reserve, with work due to be completed in time for the 2013 AFL season.
