Work starts on Mansfield skate facility
Construction work has started on a new Skate Plaza in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, after plans were put forward to the local authority by a group of local young people.
UK-based skatepark construction company, Maverick Industries, has been selected by Mansfield District Council (MDC) to build the new facility following consultation with more than 100 young people over the plans. Funding for the skate facility has been provided by MDC, Nottinghamshire County Council and the Big Lottery Fund, as well as contributions from the Waste Recycling Environment's (WREN) Landfill Communities Fund and Veolia Environmental Trust.
Local skateboarder Tim Smith, chair of the Skate Plaza project group, said: "These young people have spent the last two-and-a-half years working with the District Council on the project and it's great for them to see their dreams come one step closer to becoming a reality." Construction is expected to be completed in mid-November.
