Construction work has started on a £50,000 scheme to upgrade a section of footpath near Llandudno, North Wales as part of wider efforts to establish an All Wales Coast Path by 2012.

Conwy County Borough Council is leading the scheme on a section of path near the Little Orme between Penrhyn Close and Angel Bay, which will help to boost tourism and improve access for local people and disabled users. The work is being supported by Mostyn Estates and forms part of the Wales Coastal Access Improvement Programme, a £15m scheme launched by the Welsh Assembly Government and administered by the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW).

Environment minister Jane Davidson said: "Our country is blessed with spectacular scenery and I want to see our countryside and coast to be as accessible to as many people to enjoy as possible. To this end, we are ensuring that parts of the All Wales Coast Path will cater for a range of users, including those with mobility problems." First Minister Carwyn Jones added: "The creation of an all-Wales coastal path is an integral part of our One Wales programme of government."
