The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) has announced that work is to begin on a £320,000 gym expansion at Windsor Leisure Centre, Berkshire, next month.
J Coffey Construction has been selected to carry out the work, which is due for completion in early 2013 and will see around £40,000 invested in new equipment for the facility.
Windsor Leisure Centre's BodyZone currently houses 175 stations, including cv machines, fixed and free weights and specialised equipment such as Power Plates.
The work will see the gym expanded upwards onto the second floor and will offer an open exercise floor space, a weight training area and a group cycling suite.
According to centre manager Jes Spencer, the enlarged area is designed to target improved performance through exercise, although no decisions have yet been made over equipment.
RBWM cabinet member for adult and community services Simon Dudley said: "[The gym expansion] responds to growing public demand at Windsor Leisure Centre."
