The next batch of category winners have been announced on the second day of the architecture+Festival'>World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards in Berlin, with hotel, sports and leisure-led development projects recognised.

The best sports building prize was given to HCMA Architecture + design’s Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre in Surrey, Canada. The project - which has the world’s most slender, long span timber catenary roof - has now won two awards in a week, after being honoured with the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence last week.

Game Streetmekka by Danish firm Effektwas given an honourable mention.

The Hotel and Leisure Category was won by Aim Architecture for their Fushengyu Hotspring Resort in Mianyang, China.

The Future Culture Buildings category was won by Boogertman + Partners for their Wangari Muta Maathai House community facility in Nairobi, Kenya, which was described by the judges as “beautiful and poetic”.

The Future Leisure-led Development category went to the Ayla Golf Academy and Clubhouse, Aqaba, Jordan, designed by Oppenheim Architecture

Meanwhile OHLAB won the INSIDE Award Hotel category for their interiors at the Puro Hotel in Mallorca, Spain.
