The organisers of Live at Scone Palace have announced that three of the world’s top classical acts are to headline Proms at the Palace in association with the Stewart Milne Group on Saturday 28 July.

The world-renowned British Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined at the Proms by Icelandic soloist Gardar Cortes and All Angels, the world’s first female classical supergroup, for what promises to be Scotland’s biggest outdoor classical event of the year.

The British Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the UK’s premier orchestras and has played to sell-out audiences at top venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Wembley Arena, NEC Birmingham and the SECC in Glasgow. It’s recent highlights have included Mozart and Tchaikovsky Galas and two concerts in Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Gardar Cortes, the Icelandic tenor, has taken the classical world by storm and his album Cortes is currently topping the Official Classical Chart. Described by critics at ‘Iceland’s Hottest Geezer’, the timbre of his voice has been compared to that of Pavarotti in his prime. British audiences have already had a chance to see him in action as a special guest on Katherine Jenkins’ recent tour, where he was hailed for his commanding performances of Nessun Dorma and widely admired for his brooding good looks.

All Angels shot to stardom in 2006 when their debut album became one of the biggest selling classical albums of the year. United by their love of music, Melanie, Laura, Daisy and Charlotte bring a fresh new sound – and a bright new look – to classical crossover music, with a repertoire spanning classical, choral, opera and pop.

Hot on the heels of their 2006 success, the girls have just re-released their debut album to include three new tracks, including Elgar’s Nimrod, specially chosen to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elgar. They recently performed at the Classical Brits, where their debut album was nominated for album of the year.

Proms at the Palace, which will be hosted by a celebrity Scottish compere, will be packed with well known, popular pieces and will include a stunning finale with a special appearance by a Pipe Band.

Gerry Muldoon, from organisers Event One Management, said: “Proms at the Palace will undoubtedly be the classical event of the year in Scotland, offering the Scottish public the opportunity to see world-class acts in a truly superb setting. We want to make this a real family evening and hope that people will bring their friends, pack a picnic and enjoy the most fabulous social event of the year!”

To celebrate the launch of Proms at the Palace, the first 300 family tickets (two adults and up to two children under 16) bought before 25 June will cost only £50 plus booking fee (normal price £64). Tickets priced £22 for adults and £10 for under 16s are available now from Perth Concert Hall Box Office (Tel: 0845 612 6319, E: [email protected]), Scone Palace (Tel: 01738 552300, E: [email protected]), or online at www.liveonthelawn.co.uk
