Wyndham Hotel Group is to operate a new hotel as part of a £60m (US$93m, EUR77m) golf resort scheme near Dundee under a franchise deal with MAP Property and Leisure Developments (Mappld).

The 187-bedroom property - Wyndham Grand The Angus - will be the first in Scotland to open under the group's flagship Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand. It has been designed by Archial.

Due to open in 2015, the hotel will also boast 10 two-bedroom lodges and will complement an 18-hole championship golf course designed by 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke.

Hotel facilities will include a luxury spa with eight treatment rooms, a 20m infinity pool and a whirlpool, while a fully-equipped fitness suite and two dance studios are also planned.

Mappld has now invested fully in the project, which will also boast a golf club, an academy and private residences. Plans are now being finalised with a view to starting work next year.

The development will be located adjacent to the Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort, which is owned by entrepreneur Mike Forbes and secured planning consent in November 2010.

Donald Paterson, group managing director of Mappld, said: "Wyndham Grand The Angus with its world-class golf course will be a premier destination which will attract visitors from across the globe."

Wyndham vice president of development for the UK and Western Europe Joel Goldman added: "Wyndham Grand The Angus will offer unrivalled accommodation and service for the area, with excellent leisure and business facilities for golfers and non-golfers alike."
