Wyre Forest in line for new £10.1m complex
Wyre Forest is in line to benefit from a new £10.1m leisure complex under plans due to be considered by members of the local authority's cabinet on 31 January.
If approved by Wyre Forest District Council (WFDC), the new venue will comprise a six-court sports hall; a 25m swimming pool and learner pool; and a fitness suite.
Five-a-side football pitches are also earmarked as part of the planned scheme, which comes after a review of leisure provision was undertaken last year when a management deal ended.
It is thought the new complex will save the local authority £7.5m over the next 30 years than if it pursued the maintenance of existing facilities; an option WFDC has now ruled out.
WFDC cabinet member for community wellbeing Tracey Onslow said: "The cross-party Scrutiny Panel conducted a thorough review of all the options available to the council.
"The recommendation from the panel to look to build a new centre was by far the most affordable and sustainable. It will continue to offer fair and relevant access to a broad range of sports and activities."
