X-Leisure to sell Birmingham Star City for £90m
X-Leisure is putting its Birmingham-based Star City leisure complex up for sale, at an asking price of £90m.
Star City is a 390,000sq ft (36,230sq m) site which boasts one of the UK’s largest multiplex cinemas and Europe’s largest casino, as well as several restaurants and bars, but has reportedly had to deal with on-site crime, including several armed robberies within the centre.
However, in recent years, X-Leisure has refocused Star City as a family destination, mini-snow slope, a 24-lane bowling alley, a climbing wall and five-a-side football pitches.
PY Gerbeau, chief executive of X-Leisure, said: “We have successfully transformed Star City into a regional destination with a family focus. We now have more than four million visitors a year. The rental income, together with retail development opportunities, has turned Star City into an attractive investment.” Details: www.x-leisure.co.uk
