Xscape plans revealed
Capital & Regional has revealed further details of its expansion plans for Xscape, its urban sports, entertainment and shopping brand.
The first Xscape, launched in Milton Keynes last year, already boasts Europe's largest indoor 'real snow' slope and is to receive a 16m ice climbing wall, 20m high aerial assault course, indoor skate park and an off-road Land Rover experience. Nightclub operator Luminar Leisure will also open a venue at the site next February.
The Xscape brand is to be rolled out with £250m of investment. Work at Castleford, Leeds starts in January and building in Braehead, Glasgow begins next winter. The European flagship 1m sq ft site in the Ruhr, Germany will feature new concepts including six indoor beach volleyball pitches and an indoor windsurfing complex. All three sites will be completed by 2004.
'We have received over 4m visitors in our first year, and by 2004 hope to have entertained 20m in Milton Keynes alone,' said chief executive, PY Gerbeau.
