Yellowstone geyser basin project completed
A 14-week project to replace the boardwalk through one of Yellowstone National Park’s famous geyser basins has been completed.
The Wyoming park's Biscuit Basin area - so-called because of the unusual biscuit-like deposits which once surrounded Sapphire Pool, one of several hydrothermal features in the basin - opened to visitors for the first time this season on Friday morning (16 July).
National Park Service employees and members of the Youth Conservation Corps removed asphalt, added a larger observation deck overlooking Wall Pool, and added a new connection to the Mystic Falls trail. In all, over 2,400ft of trail was built or replaced.
The Recovery and Reinvestment Act provided funding in the amount of US$121,570 (£79,840) for project materials.
