York Wheel attraction plans to be revived
York Museums Trust (YMT) has announced that it intends to resubmit plans to establish a new big wheel attraction in the city centre.
A planning application for the Museums Gardens scheme was withdrawn after it was revealed that a full survey was required to identify any potential harm to bats in the area. YMT is working with Great City Attractions (GCA) to bring the York Wheel plans to life and both have expressed confidence that any wildlife concerns can be addressed.
A YMT spokesperson said: "The trust is happy to follow the recommendation of the bat scoping report that a full survey be carried out to establish whether there is any potential harm to bats in the vicinity of the proposed development. "We anticipate that the issue can be resolved and with this in mind we plan to resubmit the application so that it can be considered after the surveys have been carried out in May."
A GCA spokesperson added: "The bat scoping report already carried out states there is no evidence of them living in the derelict World War Two huts but we are very willing to take all of the precautionary measures needed to make sure bats are not affected."
