YouTube videos for Guggenheim
In a departure from the usual type of exhibition with which it is associated, the Guggenheim Museum's latest offering is to come from social broadcasting website YouTube.
With video having become the medium of choice for many aspiring artists, YouTube Play aims to recognise the current effect of new technologies on creativity by showcasing exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of digital media. YouTube Play is a partnership between the video site, the museum and Hewlett Packard, which invites users to submit their short, creative videos, regardless of genre, technique, background, or budget.
Submissions - which should have been created within the last two years - can include any form of creative video, including animation, motion graphics, narrative, non-narrative, or documentary work, music videos, and entirely new art forms. The top 20 videos from a shortlist of 200 - chosen by a jury of artists, filmmakers, graphic designers and musicians - will be presented at a special event at the Guggenheim New York in October, followed by public viewings at the Guggenheim museums in Berlin, Bilbao and Venice.
