Young people opt for historical attractions
A new report carried out by budget hotel chain Travelodge has revealed that young people consider sites of historical importance to be more iconic than modern visitor attractions.
According to the research, a total of 2,500 young people surveyed considered Stonehenge to be the most iconic British landmark, while Buckingham Palace, Hadrian's Wall and Edinburgh Castle also featured in the top ten. The Merlin Entertainments London Eye and Antony Gormley's Angel of the North sculpture were the only contemporary attractions included in the top ten, which also featured the Tower of London, the White Cliffs of Dover, St Paul's Cathedral and Blackpool Tower.
Travelodge reservations director Mark Kemp said: "With the 'staycation' being the top holiday destination for Britons this year, youngsters have been given the opportunity to find out what makes Great Britain so great."
