Youngsters rewarded for water safety jingles
On Saturday 4 March, nine children travelled to Wet’ n ’Wild Water World on Australia’s Gold Coast to perform in the final of the Royal Life Saving’s Swim and Survive Water Safety Jingle Competition.
The competition was held nationally and attracted more than 500 entrants, each writing a verse on water safety.
Ten-year-olds Sammy and Alice Nield from South Australia impressed the judges with their jingle on swimming safely, earning the title of national winners. The girls’ jingle will be recorded professionally and played across national radio stations next summer to promote water safety for Royal Life Saving.
Hugh Thorneycroft, age 11, from Victoria also entertained the crowd with his water safety rap to take the People’s Choice Award.
The announcements were made after a performance from Australia’s singing sensation Paulini.
Each finalist also received a PlayStation 2 game console and game and PSP, presented by Steve Wherrett, sponsorship manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Australia.
