Youth Olympic Games to begin in Innsbruck
The first ever Winter Youth Olympic Games will begin in Innsbruck, Austria tomorrow (13 January). The 10-day event will run until 22 January. The 10-day event will run until 22 January.
The sports and cultural festival will be celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games and will gather around 1,100 young athletes from 70 countries.
The venues used for the games were already in existence when Innsbruck was awarded the event in 2008, although an investment of around US$121m was made to build an athlete's village suitable for young competitors and their support teams.
During the games, a total of 372 medals will be awarded in 63 medal events in 15 traditional Olympic winter sports disciplines.
