£100m Salford Forest Park plans revealed
1690 acres of land are to be turned into a £100m racecourse and leisure park in Manchester.
The revised multi-million pound Salford Forest Park development was unveiled by Peel Holdings and has been managed and designed by the FWP Group.
Plans include the New Manchester Racecourse, which will boast both flat racing on grass and all-weather tracks, a hotel and a new 6000-capacity grandstand, designed by FWP’s Neil Southwell.
Peel also intends to create a visitor attraction that will be based on the surrounding woodlands – offering more than just racing.
Peter Nears, planning director, said: “Salford Forest Park is not merely a racecourse and will provide opportunities for a number of recreational and leisure pursuits for the people of Greater Manchester and beyond.”
At the core of the site, a visitor centre will guide guests to a number of attractions.
A woodland walk will enable visitors to see the forest from a bird’s eye view, while an Eco Village will exhibit innovations in sustainable living. Other leisure facilities include an 18-hole golf course, 11 miles of cycle trails, eight miles of riding trails and 20 miles of footpaths.
