£10m Rushden leisure complex plans not concrete
East Northamptonshire Council and Rushden Town Council are having second thoughts as to where to build a new £10m sports complex in the town.
The centre would replace the town’s swimming pool in Duck Street and leisure centre in HE Bates Way.
It was proposed that the centre be built in Manor Park in Rushden, but the council has announced that it has not ruled considering other locations.
Local paper the Evening Telegraph quoted Rushden Town Council’s leader Colin Wright as saying: “Some people feel Manor Park is a good place for the new sports complex and other think it should be in the town centre.
“The town council owns Manor Park, so it would make sense to use that land but East Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire County Council also owns land that could be used.
“We need to look at the available sites and see which is best so we can ensure the regeneration goes ahead despite the current financial situation.”
Details on the centre, which is due to open in 2011, are vague at present, but it will encapsulate both wet and dry elements.
