£120m Royal Bath and West plans lodged
Plans for a major £120m redevelopment of the Royal Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, have been submitted for consideration.
Mendip District Council will decide the fate of the project, which will create an "all-year leisure and business" destination and is expected to take up to 10 years to be completed. A 100,000sq ft (9,290sq m) exhibition and conference centre; a rural and countryside leisure activity area; and two hotels are at the heart of the London and Wharfedale plans for the site.
A garden/horticultural or outdoor leisure centre; a retail village and visitor destination zone; and a renewable energy control, research and learning centre also form part of the scheme. According to a spokesperson, the proposals are expected to be heard by the council's planning committee later this month.
