£1.2m Naze scheme contractor appointed
Suffolk-based contractor J Breheny has been selected to deliver a £1.2m project to improve access and help safeguard the future of Walton's historic Naze.
The Crag Walk scheme will form part of the wider Naze Heritage Project and will include the creation of a public viewing platform at the southern end of the Naze cliffs. Five interpretation boards will also be installed along the 110m (361ft) Crag Walk, which will provide information on the heritage programme, geology, the Naze Tower and local wildlife.
Tendring District Council (TDC) granted planning permission for the scheme in August and expects work to be completed by next spring. A number of organisations are working on the project, including the Coastal Renaissance Partnership - led by TDC and Essex County Council.
The Haven Gateway Partnership, the Environment Agency, the Essex Wildlife Trust, the Naze Protection Society, Naze Tower and the owners of Stone Point and Walton Hall Farm are also involved.
