£13m Rushden leisure plans deferred
Detailed plans for the new £13m Manor Park Leisure Centre in Rushden, Northamptonshire, have been deferred by officials at the local authority.
Further time is needed to negotiate on the exterior design of the planned complex, according to East Northamptonshire Council's (ENC) development control committee. Concerns were also raised about the travel plan for the scheme, while internal modifications will be required in order to cater for a bar and to accommodate theatrical productions.
Working alongside Rushden Town Council, ENC's plans for the Manor Park development boast a six-lane, 25m swimming pool and teaching pool and a fitness suite. Leisure water facilities - such as jets and fountains; dance and exercise studios; a six-court sports hall and a crèche also form part of the FaulknerBrowns Architects-designed proposals.
An ENC spokesperson said: "The council's development control committee decided that the Manor Park Leisure Centre planning application should be deferred." The proposed venue is set to replace the town's existing Splash Leisure Pool and Pemberton Centre, with ENC contributing up to £11m. A further £2m has been invested as part of the government's Growth Fund through the North Northants Development Company.
East Midlands Development Agency will also provide £800,000 through Northamptonshire Enterprise.
