£14.2m MIMA opens
The £14.2m Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) has officially opened.
Funded by numerous sources – including the local council, Arts Council England, Tees Valley Partnership in Action and the European Regional Development Fund – the gallery was designed by Erick van Egeraat Associates and is situated in the Middlesborough Centre Square.
Mark Robinson, executive director of Arts Council England North East, said: “MIMA will provide new opportunities for people to enjoy world class art and play a role in establishing Middlesborough and the Tees Valley as an arts destination.”
The inaugural exhibition features works by international artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol, as well as British artists such as Damien Hirst. Details: www.visitmima.co.uk
