£150m mixed-use scheme for Birmingham
Dublin-based developer The Naus Group is submitting plans for a £150m mixed-use scheme in the dilapidated Irish Quarter of Digbeth in Birmingham.
The 4.5-acre (1.8-hectare) Connaught Scheme site will comprise a four-star, 180-bed hotel featuring a sky bar and restaurant offering panoramic views of the city, and incorporating 36 serviced apartments; a spa facility; a new Irish Centre to replace the existing premises on High Street Deritend; bars and restaurants as well as shops and offices.
A pedestrian boulevard will intersect the development and provide access to two new public squares, one of which will straddle the River Rea.
The site will be made up of six individually designed buildings of between four and seven storeys, including the 10-storey hotel tower.
Building work will start in early 2008, with site completion by 2011. The hotel will be ready for guests in 2009.
