£15m sports centre proposed for Didcot
A report into the future of sports and recreation in Didcot has suggested that a new £15m multi-use leisure centre should be built in the Oxfordshire town.
The study, which was carried out by consultants, Max Associates, was commissioned by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) to examine the proposed future demand for sports facilities in the town. The report recommends that the new centre, which would replace the existing Didcot Wave, includes a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool, a health suite, an eight-court sports hall, a 100-station fitness studio and two squash courts.
External facilities, including six tennis courts, an all-weather pitch and two multi-use games areas were also among the report's recommendations, as well as additional facilities at a new housing development at Great Western Park. SODC is inviting local residents to have their say on the proposals before the end of the month, before considering whether to follow the recommendations.
