£1m boost for Beversbrook sports ground
The Football Foundation has awarded £1m to the Beversbrook sports ground in Wiltshire.
Calne Town Council can now move forward with plans to provide two adult football pitches, three youth football pitches and four mini soccer pitches at the Beversbrook site in Calne.
The funding will also enable the council to provide a rugby pitch and a cricket pitch, as well as an eight-room changing and social facility.
It is hoped that the new sports provision will encourage young people, especially girls, women and players with disabilities, to take part in organized sport.
Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the foundation, said: “The Calne area desperately needs proper community sports provision. This funding will help boost the opportunities for local people to play a range of sports.”
Work on site will commence later this year.
