£1m tourism investment for mine heritage
Cornwall Council has revealed that more than £1m has been invested through the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site's (WHS) sustainable rural tourism programme.
The first two phases of Discover the Extraordinary development started in early 2010, with 11 WHS partner attractions improving visitor facilities and public presentations. Schemes to benefit in the first phases of the three-year investment programme included an extended underground tour and new WHS exhibition at Geevor Tin Mine.
St Agnes Museum; Tavistock Museum; East Pool Mine; and King Edward Mine have also received funding through the European Union and UK government-funded scheme. Cornwall Council portfolio holder for waste and environment Julian German said: "With the public presentation of the WHS now enhanced and updated, the next phase can begin - marketing the WHS to tourism businesses and out of region markets."
