£2.5m sports centre opens at Esher in Surrey
A multi-million pound sports centre has been unveiled at Esher High School in Surrey.
The £2.5m facility features a 30-station fitness suite, a performance dance room, sports hall, changing rooms and a conference room.
The sports hall has been designed to include a sprung wooden floor and accommodates sports such as badminton, volleyball, basketball, netball, 5-a-side football, cricket, and archery, ranging from community to international standards.
The new facility, which was funded by Surrey County Council, was opened after 10 years of trying to secure the facility to provide for the expanding entry numbers to the school.
It is intended that the facilities will be available for use by the local community and sports clubs in the near future.
Simon Morris, head teacher said: "We are incredibly proud and confident that the Sports Centre will 'inspire a generation' of young people to become active participants in sport."
