£2.8m fitness suite opens in Rhondda Cynon Taf
Llantrisant Leisure Centre in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales has undergone a major revamp of its facilities.
The development at Llantrisant Leisure Centre forms part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's wider £6m refurbishment programme to provide improve leisure facilities across the County Borough.
Improvements at the centre include a new 95-station, £2.8m gym equipped with Life Fitness equipment. The new kit includes the Life Fitness Lifescape station, which aims to bring workouts to life through outdoor adventures that include interactive, high-definition hikes, runs and bikes.
Integrated machine controls adjust video speed to that of the exerciser, and resistance to match the terrain.
Experiences include hikes through Yosemite and King's Canyon national parks, runs through Germany and the Trinity Mountains, and bike rides through Champagne and Col de la Colombière, France.
Additional works at centre include a new reception area, café and conference suite that will accommodate the extensive fitness classes and activity programmes.
Work on the leisure centre is being carried out by Alliance Leisure and sub-contractors Creatability.
The new design includes energy-saving measures such as LED lighting, PIR-controlled switching, heat recovery air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Cabinet member Robert Bevan, said: "It marks a major milestone in this new redevelopment as part of the Council's on-going commitment to improving leisure facilities across the County Borough.
"As part of its Leisure For Life Campaign that aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has committed itself to this development to take sport and recreation into the 21st Century."
