£29m Wycombe leisure plans to proceed
Wycombe District Council (WDC) has agreed to move forward with a design brief and full business case for a £29m sports centre, which is to be built in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
The local authority's cabinet resolved to proceed with the plans based on a facility including a 50m, eight-lane swimming pool; a 20m x 8m learner pool; and a 150-station fitness suite.
A dance studio; a 12-court sports hall; squash courts; and a health suite also form part of the new leisure centre proposals, in addition to a leisure water facility for toddlers and not for users of all ages.
Cabinet members were told that the current sports hall at Wycombe Sports Centre was "long past its originally anticipated life and has become increasingly more expensive to run".
A WDC report said the council had "sufficient internal capital resources" for the project but officials in charge of the business case will also examine the proposed funding strategy.
The new Wycombe Sports Centre is to form part of a wider regeneration of adjacent land, which will also include a hotel and office space. The leisure centre is due to open in 2015.
