£3.2m Grantham tennis development underway
Former British tennis number one and TV presenter, Andrew Castle, is launching work on a £3.2m (US$4.9m, €3.7m) project to build new tennis facilities in Grantham, Lincolnshire.
The new facility will be built by Nottingham-based construction contractors, Clegg Group for its client, the Grantham Tennis Club, which has been in operation since 1907.
The planned development will include an indoor tennis centre with four indoor acrylic courts, a lounge, café, gym, changing facilities, treatment rooms, office, indoor and outdoor viewing areas, as well as four artificial grass courts, four mini red hard courts and five artificial outdoor clay courts.
Work on the site is scheduled to be completed in two phases, which will allow the club to remain open while the new development is completed.
The project is being funded by a local business in Grantham and by the Lawn Tennis Association, which has contributed £1m (US$1.5m, €1.2m) towards costs in grants and loans.
The first phase of development will see seven new outdoor tennis courts built with work scheduled to begin this month and a completion date set for March 2014.
