£35m development planned for River Avon site
A £35m retail and leisure development, IntoOutdoors, has received planning permission for a location near Stratford-Upon-Avon on the banks of the River Avon.
Owner and developer Eagle One will create a 45-unit retail centre, outdoor leisure pursuits and holiday lodges within its 125-acre site near the A44 and A46 trunk roads junction.
The project will break ground this year and is expected to be completed by summer 2014.
In addition to 140,000sq ft (13,006sq m) of retail, restaurant, cafes and leisure space, the development will include 60 holiday lodges, two fishing lakes, cycle routes, outdoor exhibitions and activity areas.
The retail and visitor attraction is within 60 minutes drive of a population of around 3.6m.
Director of IntoOutdoors Simon Tothill said: "In a harsh economic climate, IntoOutdoors is a unique retail concept which offers an alternative to traditional and internet based retailing.
"We believe it will succeed by making the shopping experience a truly leisure based activity with IntoOutdoors designed to appeal to all age groups."
The investment will lead to around 1,000 new jobs and links to the nearby towns via water taxi, cycle and bus routes means the development will attract economic benefits for the surrounding area.
