£4.5m overhaul for Blaenau Ffestiniog
Miller Research has started work on a four-month detailed design process for the proposed £4.5m scheme designed to transform Blaenau Ffestiniog town centre in North Wales.
The Monmouthshire-based consultancy has been appointed by Gwynedd Council, which is working in partnership with local regeneration company Blaenau Ymlaen and the Welsh Assembly Government. At the heart of proposals is the creation of a "vibrant shopping street" and the development of a "distinctive visitor destination", based on the town's heritage and culture.
Funding for the scheme has been contributed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government, as well as the council, which green lighted the proposals in November 2009. Gwynedd Council's regeneration officer for Ffestiniog and Eifionydd, Pryderi ap Rhisiart, said: "This important project is centred around putting Blaenau Ffestiniog back on the map, and ensuring that the town is a great place to live and to visit.
"Now that the money to deliver the project is in place we hope that we can move on with the plans and make a real difference."
