£4m funding for county festivals of sport
Sport England has announced that 46 local organising committees will be handed a share of £4m towards new "festivals of sport" that form part of the new School Games concept.
A series of annual county festivals will be the third level of the School Games structure and will mark the culmination of an ongoing programme of intra- and inter-school competition.
Each committee includes representatives from schools, County Sports Partnerships, young people and sports providers. The Youth Sport Trust will also support the committees.
Sport England youth and communities director Mike Diaper said: "The Local Organising Committees will showcase and deliver the finals of the all-year-round inter school competition across 30 sports.
"Alongside our Olympic legacy programme, Places People Play, this will ensure we build a lasting sporting legacy beyond next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games."
