£50m sporting base for Tring?
Plans to create a £50m sporting base in the Hertfordshire town of Tring have been submitted to the borough council.
The project, which is being led by Tring Sports Forum, would house the town’s football clubs and feature other facilities including a swimming pool and an athletics track.
According to local paper, The Gazette, Tring School would also move to the new centre and the secondary school’s current land would be sold for housing to help finance the scheme.
The Tring Sports Forum includes representatives of local sports clubs and is led by Mayor of Tring Mike James. The Gazette quoted James as saying: “With the Olympics coming up there is a real opportunity for funding. Generally the reaction from almost everyone is positive, it ticks a lot of boxes for the town.”
The success of the scheme reportedly depends on a number of factors – the approval of Dacorum Borough Council to re-designate the Green Belt Lane for leisure use and the fact that the 110-acre piece of land marked out for the site is owned by Herts County Council and occupied by two farm tenants.
A formal application is expected to be submitted in June.
