£560k facelift for Southall Manor House
Ealing Council has approved plans for the £560,000 restoration and renovation of Southall Manor House in Southall Green, west London.
The Grade II-listed property, which is included on English Heritage's Heritage at Risk register, dates back to the 16th century and is one of the area's oldest buildings. Initial work will see roof timbers replaced and other repairs to protect the building against wind and weather conditions in a bid to prevent any further deterioration.
Further funding is being sought in order to carry out further upgrade work at the house, while work is already underway on improvements to the gardens and the creation of a community history project Ealing Council's leader and cabinet member for regeneration, Julian Bell, said: "It is vital that we carry out this work to remove the building from the 'at-risk' register and preserve this important landmark for future generations."
