£7m revamp for former Yeovil glove factory
A former glove factory in the centre of Yeovil, Somerset, is set to undergo a major £7m transformation under plans announced by South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and developer Zero C.
Work to clear the site is set to be completed by early February in order to enable the scheme to get underway, which will boast a residential development, a café/restaurant and an outdoor courtyard area. A new promenade, a landscaped stream and the first part of a new cycle way on the site of an enclosed concrete ditch are due to be completed by the summer, before work starts on the transformation of a site next to the former factory. The redevelopment of Foundry House will form the third stage of the scheme.
Councillor Tony Fife, Yeovil Vision portfolio holder and SSDC member, said: "This is a landmark site and links in with the newly improved South Western Terrace and Reckleford areas. It is part of a much larger picture that will help deliver the town's potential." Zero C managing director Kim Slowe added: "We see it as an excellent opportunity to develop a scheme that represents the very best in urban design and sustainability."
