£80m waterfront scheme planned for Lochaber
An £80m redevelopment scheme has been planned for the Fort William waterfront in Lochaber, Scotland.
The plans, submitted by Fort William Waterfront Limited, include a hotel and restaurants as well as new homes and a supermarket, and were selected by the Highland Council’s Lochaber Area Committee from a number of tenders.
Cllr Olwyn Macdonald, convener of the committee, said: “The proposal from Fort William Waterfront starts to satisfy our requirements and also gives a new civic square, library, an auditorium, a walkway around the development and an attractive lochan area in front of the Old Fort – things that we are keen to see.”
The chair of the committee, Drew McFarlane-Slack, added: “I was both delighted and relieved at the high standard of tender returns and particularly pleased that the Highland Council has chosen the Fort William Waterfront submission.”
The project, if granted planning permission, could be completed by 2013.
