Dublin to host international standard sports complex
An 80,000-seater stadium, arena, velodrome, golf academy and tennis centre will sit alongside the National Irish Aquatic Centre once Sports Campus Ireland is completed. Work has now started on the water sports centre which will have a 50 metre pool, with floating floors and two submersible bulkheads, a short course international 25 metre pool, a water polo pool, training pools and a diving pool with a moveable floor. There will also be an indoor waterpark with flumes and thrill rides. S&P Architects have teamed up with Ashcon Rohcon to design the centre, after an international design competition. Ireland's Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Dr James McDaid, is excited about the development: 'I have always believed strongly that what we are building here represents a major national and community amenity and will contribute to Ireland's quality way of life. The Aquatic Centre will truly be a fantastic facility, which will attract and host international competitions.'
