Everyone Active has taken charge of four new leisure centres after winning a 10-year contract with Scarborough Borough Council.

The deal, which came into effect on 1 October, sees Everyone Active assume management responsibilities for Whitby Leisure Centre, Scarborough Sports Centre, Scarborough Indoor Pool and Pindar Leisure Centre.

The leisure operator will also take charge of the multi-million pound Scarborough Leisure Village, which will supersede Scarborough Sports Centre and Indoor Pool when it opens in 2017.

Scarborough Leisure Village, which has been designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects, will feature a raft of modern facilities. These include a 25m (82ft) pool, a 2,000 capacity football stadium with 3G artificial pitch, a four-court sports hall and a 60-station gym with a fitness studio.

The football stadium will be the new home of Scarborough Athletic Football Club, with Scarborough Borough Council selling the site of the town's former football stadium on Seamer Road to fund the scheme. Football stadium leisure complexes are becoming something of a specialty for Everyone Active, which also recently took charge of the Hand Stadium in North Somerset.

David Bibby, Everyone Active managing director, said: “We have extensive experience of successfully operating leisure facilities in the north east, on behalf of local authorities, and our aim is to deliver the same standard here in Scarborough and Whitby.

“We’re already working closely with colleagues at each of the four centres and we’re excited to develop our partnership and for the fantastic developments ahead.”
