Next phase of Scarborough plans on show
Plans for the next phase of the Sands development in Scarborough's North Bay, which will include a new waterpark, holiday homes and a family restaurant, have been put on display.
Benchmark Leisure submitted its proposals for the latest stage of the scheme after it secured an extension to a development agreement with Scarborough Borough Council (SBC).
The extension also required receipt of payment for costs of the Open Air Theatre, as well as a signed agreement with Alpamare (UK), which will operate the waterpark.
Benchmark owner Roland Duce said: "We now have an agreement for lease with a major waterpark operator and have submitted a detailed planning application for the whole of the development excluding the former Atlantis site.
"All of this means the next stage of this very important scheme can move a major step closer. The waterpark is our next priority and we hope to begin work on site next year for a summer 2013 opening,"
SBC strategic director David Archer added: "This is a significant milestone in the life of this scheme and we now look forward to working with Benchmark on delivering the waterpark."
The plans will be on show at the Town Hall until 1 December, although comments will still be accepted until 5 December.
