England and Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling, UK Sport CEO Liz Nicholl and the England Netball team were among the winners of the BT Sport Industry Awards 2019.

The award night, held at Battersea Evolution in London last night, saw winners in 22 categories.

Raheem Sterling was given The Integrity and Impact Award for speaking out on a range of social issues and for his fight against racism in football.

England Netball scooped the Sport Organisation of the Year award for its long-term strategic approach which has resulted in a huge increase in the number of people playing the sport at grassroots level.

The national governing body has also enjoyed "unprecedented success" in commercial terms over the last 12 months – thanks partly to it having signed a number of new strategic partnerships with global brands such as Nike, Red Bull, Jaffa, and Oasis.

It has also experienced record ticket sales and international game attendance at levels never seen before by a women’s team sport.

“This award is testament to the hard work and dedication of all of the people that work for and represent England Netball," said Joanna Adams, England Netball CEO.

"We continue to grow and develop our offering to ensure that netball can be enjoyed by everyone from a grassroots to an elite level because we know this sport can have such a positive influence on people’s lives.

“Participation has grown significantly over the last 12 months and a huge part of that is due to the success of the Vitality Roses at the Commonwealth Games in April 2018. We are now looking ahead to the Vitality Netball World Cup and are preparing for participation numbers to soar once again."

Other winners on the night included the England football World Cup squad and its manager Gareth Southgate, who were given the Leadership in Sport award.

Commenting on the win, Southgate said: "Sport’s no different to business. You’re trying to create a culture where everyone can be the best version of themselves."

Meanwhile, Liz Nicholl, the outgoing chief executive of UK Sport, was given a Lifetime Award for her work in elite sport.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) received two gongs. It won the Diversity and Inclusion Award for its South Asian Action Plan – which uses cricket to make girls and women more active in the South Asian community – and the Fan or Community Engagement award for its Play-Cricket Player Communication service.
