£10m revamp for Queens Hall
The Queens Hall live music venue in central Edinburgh has unveiled a £10m redevelopment plan.
The landmark site will include three new spaces to meet customer demand, including a self-contained hospitality space for entertaining guests, a warm-up space for performers and a 100-capacity flexible performance space with retractable seating.
The additional facilities will allow Queens Hall to offer digital recording, new technologies, disc jokeying and broadcast for 15–18 year olds; song-writing sessions; instrument making and training in sound engineering and mixing.
Chief executive Adrian Harris said: “Our vision is to transform our beautiful building into a concert hall for the 21st century.
“We have been working with Edinburgh-based Mill Architects over the last six months to ensure that the plans reflect this new vision while maintaining our current intimacy, historic features and unique charm.”
Harris has applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for investment to develop the 12-month project.
David McLellan, chair of the Queens Hall board, added: “The diversity of performances that the Queens Hall provides is one of the reasons why people love the venue so much. Whatever type of music you are interested in, this is a special place where musicians and audiences meet and engage with each other.”
The ‘A’-listed Georgian Church was converted into a live music venue in 1979. Details: www.thequeenshall.net
