£15m Lottery investment in play
The Big Lottery Fund has announced an award of £15m to a partnership led by the Children's Play Council (CPC) as the first part of a national investment programme.
The £15m Play England project is a five-year scheme designed to help local agencies establish strategies and medium-term plans for provision of play.
It aims to give local authorities the backing and expertise to develop play strategies to give young people more meaningful and rewarding opportunities, and is part of the Children's Play initiative – a £155m scheme running across the country.
Adrian Voce, director of the CPC, which will head the delivery of Play England, said: “This announcement marks the culmination of several years’ intensive work within the sector to make the case for children’s play. It is a clear sign that at last we, as a society, are taking play seriously."
“This investment should help transform play opportunities across the country, to the benefit of children and the communities in which they live.”
